So, as is the motivation with such competitions (apart from the opportunity to give my readers something they would like) the purpose is to promote what I do here at Alice Jean's. Alice Jean's has been running since 2008, and apart from the health induced 'down time' I have had over the past 2 months, I have been publishing posts on a weekly basis.....at one time Alice Jean's had 1200 weekly readers, but unfortunately this has diminished as I prioritised motherhood over attending every vintage celebration and festival. So, my beloved readers, I would like to encourage the readership back up to those dizzying heights once again - and you can help me, and win a pair of vintage stockings in the process !

A rather tidy little competition - take note car lovers !

I have a 1951 Pontiac, and being the classic that it is, I have insured "Ruby Baby" (as my children call her) with Australia's premier 'old car' insurance group, Shannons. Valentines Day Giveaway

In the spirit of glamour, joy and fun, and not because I am a believer in gimmicky celebration days, I am running a competition for Valentines Day 2013.

 

With songs such as "Moon River" and "True Love" I felt that The Puppini Sisters album 'Hollywood' would make the perfect valentines giveaway here at Alice Jean's. And all you have to do to enter is like Alice Jean's on facebook, then share the link to this competition on your own Facebook page. The competition will be drawn from those who have done so on Valentines Day, and the winner will be contacted via facebook pm-ing for postal details.  Easy.

 

As for Valentines Day, well, I feel love should be celebrated at every opportunity, not just one one day of the year. I have said it before and I will say it again though, some people need that kick up the proverbial to show care and affection for their partners on even just this one day. To me that is not on.

 

 

Life is short. It is precious. People are valuable. And it is not hard to show care. Words cost nothing and mean more that anything. Gifts can be as simple as a bunch of wildflowers. Moments can be as ordinary as fish and chips by the river. But simplicity is beautiful when it is from the heart, springing from a place of love for another.

 

As one who is questioning the entire existence of love in the universe right now, please lavish care and affection on your partner, children, extended family and friends where ever possible.....not just this one day of the year. This emotion called love is the one reason any of us have for living. If we are single it is the hope that it may one day happen for us. If we are partnered, it should be in the joy of building and growing that love. After all, with thanks to the marvelous Sir Paul, it is "all you need".

Celebrating 100 followers !!

How exstatic was I when I discovered I had cracked the 100 followers mark on my blog ! I know blogging isnt about numbers, its about sharing passions and interests with like minded people - and it is such a wonderful way to do that ! For me blogging is also about 'scratching the itch' I have to write, and considering all the beautiful friendships I have made through cyber space, it is a most satisfying itch to scratch ! None the less, I was totally chuffed to think that there are 100 people out there who like what I share so much they are keen to follow along with me.....and then I decided to check my sight meter readings for the first time in ages, and was utterly floored to discover that 250-350 people are reading my blog each week !!! I feel so humbled and honoured to know that !!

My One and Only - Competition, Prizes and a great period movie !

What a wonderful quote !! It is out of a darling new film "My One and Only", set in 1953 and brimming with all things captivating, about the era. Magnificent music, dreamy clothing, cars, architecture and design - all the things we love here at Alice Jeans. And then there is the facinating storyline and the meaty characters.....

My One and Only, directed by Richard Loncraine, is inspired by the incidents in the life of actor and Hollywood icon George Hamilton. This breezy journey follows the refined and enchanting Ann Deveraux (Renee Zellweger), who packs up her life, including two teenage sons, buys a Cadillac convertible and embarks on a cross-country trip to get away from philandering, society bandleader Dan (Kevin Bacon.) Anns goal: to find herself a new husband. Yet what this unconventional family discover is something altogether more wonderful.

Intriguing !

To celebrate the release of this film in cinemas across Australia on March 11,  I have 5 in season double passes to give away - How EXCITING !!!!

1. I was OBSSESSED with Anne of Green Gables as a teenager

2. My husband was my very first boyfriend - we met when I was 23.

3. I was a tall, gangly, ugly duckling as a child - which explains why I never had a boyfriend before my honey! However, I think it was the best thing in the world for me - gave me independance, individuality, and a focus on life and living instead of 'boys'!!

Christmas Giveaway Competition

With Christmas on the doorstep, I decided it was a perfect opportunity to host my very first giveaway here at Alice Jean's !!

I have been very very busy sewing sewing sewing, and the end result has been some darling little girls pinnies in all sorts of colours and fabrics - just ready for your daughter, neice, grandaughter or friend to play in. Here is a picture of my own little baby doll modeling how they can be worn - with jeans and a long sleeve top - but they would look just as darling on their own or with a summer t-shirt underneath.
