A little secret.....

Can I share a little secret with you? I LOVE Barbie Dolls......OK that may not come as such a surprise, but I thought I would share my love of pop culture and this classic mid century doll with you......

 

Firstly, if anyone can tell me the name of the Barbie pictured above and where I might get hold of her I will be eternally in your debt. Also, I am so curious to know what other dolls appear in this picture and of course to see the overall image itself............

 

Below is a photograph of my collection of dolls as it stands right now.....I have many plans to continue to add to this, so I guess one of the best investments I could make would be to obtain a cabinet to house them all in - I am running out of room in my walk in robe - and they are so beautiful they should be on display !!!!

I loved Barbies as a child and spent hours making them beautiful clothes to wear (now I just make the clothes for myself instead), but my adult love for the dolls can be attributed to a birthday gift from my friends Lisa, Catherine and Mel about 3 years ago, when I received the anniversary 1959 doll.....look at what you have started girls !! With much gratitude I blame you three for the rekindling of my Barbie love !!!!

 

Collection of Little Golden Books

Ever since childhood, Little Golden Books have been a favourite with me. I loved "The Taxi that hurried", "Scuffy the Tugboat" and "The little red caboose", but my alltime bestest Golden Book Story was "Goodbye Tonsils". I think I particularly liked that when MaryAnne went to hospital to have her tonsils out she was pampered and doted on, and grandma bought her a big pink teddy bear!! And MaryAnne was so adorable with her little brunette bobbed haircut, I wanted to look just like her !!!

Now that I have children of my own, collecting Little Golden Books has become a bit of a passion for me. How I adore the darling pictures, particularly if pre 1970's Golden Books. Artists such as Tibor Gergely, Mel Crawford, and Elenor Dart made the charming stories come to life so beautifully.

Here are just a few of my favourites out of my collection. I would love to hear if you grew up with Little Golden Books, and particularly what your favourite stories were....everyone has their favourite I am sure !

My green things

I adore all things green - as you will see from these photographs. Things need not be in 'mint' condition, just so long as they are beautiful enough to grab my attention, and that certian colour of green that I just love - usually pastel, sage '1950's' green. It is a delight to share my small collection with you....

Poor old green phone ! It smashed in an accident where my whole sewing table (a home made 1950's cabinet) collapsed. We have managed to peice it back together, but it will never look as good as it did....however it still works a treat !!!

Can anyone give me some details on the clock in the picture? I have not been able to find out anything about the company, or this item and would love to know more !

My Nanna Alice had a number of depression glass peices, but being a child at the time, I did not appreciate their great beauty and let them slip through my fingers. As such, I am keen to get my hands on some in her memory - that will be my next treasure hunt.

Hubby is also importing a sage green 1950 Buick from America at the moment, which will tow our sage green caravan (under restoration).....then all we will need will be a sage green house and our collection will be complete - or will it??!!!! (Are they ever ?!!!)
