The Movie Club movie for May is the cult classic "The Girl Cant Help It" starring Tom Ewell and the incomprible Jayne Mansfield. Known as one of the first 'Rock and Roll' pictures, the film features a number of performances from classic artists such as Fats Domino, The Platters, Little Richard, Gene Vincent, The Treniers, The Chuckles, Johnny Glenn, Nino Tempo, Eddie Cochrane, Abbey Lincoln and Eddie Fontaine. It is worth watching simply for the music !!

I love this film, I particularly The Treniers bit, I LOVE The Treniers, oh and the dresses too!
ReplyDeleteI just finished watching. it was so great and made me so happy after a not so great day. It reminded me of Marylin Monroe films. super fun and odd. Any other suggestions for similar films?
ReplyDeleteHey Camilla - so glad you enjoyed it ! It is very similar to 'The Seven Year Itch' with Marilyn, but minus all the muso's. I will have a dig around and see what I can find that might be similar....... there are a number of 'Rock and Roll' films from the era - "Blackboard Jungle", "Rock around the Clock", and "Highschool Confidential" are a few that spring to mind, but they are more serious type films, not the quirky fun kind like 'The girl cant help it'.
ReplyDeleteAndi - you might be able to suggest more films like this one that I havent thought of?
Love to you all !!
